Background

Recognised as study group in 1989; granted research committee status in 1999.

Objectives

Scientists measure international events and other phenomena to test theoretical aspects of interstate interaction and comparative politics. Although raw sources and processed data of various kinds are readily available or can be obtained through research, many scientists avoid its use because of intellectual preference, the daunting demands of increasingly complex computational procedures and sometimes the weakness of existing datasets.

This Research Committee seeks to advance the state of data–based knowledge, to enhance the distribution and use of existing datasets, and to set up an international framework for improving the global dissemination of quantitative research in international and comparative politics.
